Goodbye Diapers

Good news everyone. I thought potty training my baby would be hard, but it was not at all.

My daughter will be 3 years old next month. She is potty trained now; and there is no need to use a diaper anymore. Last week, I started my daughter on wearing her underpants without a diaper, when she goes to sleep. So far, she hasn’t wet the bed. My secret is that I woke her up in the middle of the night and at 5 o’clock in the morning. The first two nights, she cried when I asked her to go pee; but the next morning, she was doing well. Last night, I was surprised because I didn’t have to ask her to go pee; but suddenly, she got up from the bed and went to pee. Wow, that is awesome for her at that age to do like that.

Both hubby and I are very happy watching our daughter grow up and learn new things.

  • Hi Raq! Abi nako na potty trained na jud si Maria completely kay ga mention man ka about ana katong December paman siguro to or January. Sukad pag mention nimo ato, na encourage jud ko nimo nga i potty train pod si Miriam ug sukad ato completely potty trained napod sya. Bisag magabie wala na nako gipasuot ug pull ups or diaper then dili rapod baya sya mangihi sa bed niya. Mohulat gud intawon sya mabuntag usa mangihi. Kapoy baya mag sigeg assist usahay hehehehe...makaguol baya hunahunaon usahay nga dili na sila baby sa heheheh...Dali ra man kaau sila makakat on. Take care always. God bless you!

Communication Problems

A week ago, we went to our pediatrician for a well check-up and to receive vaccinations for my youngest daughter. At the waiting area there were two children playing, they were ages 6 and 3 years old. Again, I started to compare my 3 year old daughter to the other 3 year old child. The 3 year old girl was talking a lot and was communicating well with her mom and her sister. My daughter is almost 3 year old, but she isn’t fully talking yet. To tell the truth, she talks a lot, but she talks mostly in unintelligible baby talk. She has a small vocabulary, but she doesn’t speak many complete sentences. When she does attempt to say something, it’s not very clear what she’s trying to say. But with my coaching, she can say sentences after me and understands what I say, and she responds.

She is very intelligent, especially when it comes to problem solving and puzzles in the computer. She can read and repeat sentences after me. She learns everything very fast, except for talking. She is quite smart and right with everything else, and she understands what you are asking her to do. Should I be worried about this? Ease my troubled mind.

  • Hi Raquel, thanks for visiting me in my blog. You should visit the rest of my blog so you can see andrew's birthday photos.

Regarding the issue of your daughter. You should check have her evaulated in school specially if you are planning to send her in pre-school. Public school have a lot of benefits for Maria like speech delayed like teaching her in vocabulary how to use it. I know she can talk and response well, but it's better to have her evaluate in school specially this time of the year naa silay pre-school screening in school. So far so good his doing very kay naa man siya speech therapy sa school nila since pre-k. Ingon ang teacher niya na his doing well kono pero well see kung ok na siya end of this year dayon paundangon na namo. Lahi man good ang interaction sa ginikanan. I seen a lot of kids in pre-school na naa gyod delayed kay ang vocabulary dili parehas sa uban. Ang mga bata man pod nga naay oldest sibling dali ra pod maka storya ug naay daghang communication sa igsoon ug ginikanan. Na sige good luck.

  • Hello manay! Wala akong firsthand experience sa ganyan but my sister has a degree in pre school teaching and special education. There are tests daw that can be given to Maria to solve your dilemma. They can tell you the whys and the hows.

    Hope this helps :)

    Happy Wednesday, Raq!

Says Anonymous sasha, at April 15, 2008 11:26 PM

  • Hi Raquel,
You shouldn't be worried. Each child's development is different from one another. Some child could be talkative but doesn't know her ABCs or 123s yet.

But if it really bothers you, maybe you should ask you pedia about your concerns.

  • Hi,

I am running Time Capsule tag. I hope you can join with me. Feel free to play or not. Thanks

Says Blogger Picturing of Life, at April 17, 2008 6:46 AM

  • My friend's daughter is just like her. In her case, the reason is that they use many languages at home (Japanese, English, Tagalog, and Bisaya) so I think her daughter was just confused. But after sending her to nursery school, the problem seem to disappear. Now, her daughter speaks fluent Japanese. :D

Says Blogger shiera (bisdakbabbles), at April 17, 2008 11:06 AM

  • My three year old son does the same thing! He turned three about two months ago. It's been mostly babble, but I am starting to hear more distinct words. He too is extremely smart, but just not a big talker. I'm sure this is normal. Every child is different! They just talk when they decide to!

But he just gave a cold shoulder. then after a while my bf recounted that the kiddo can now converse very well.

    Says Blogger bb_anne, at April 22, 2008 3:25 AM

  • Hi Raquel! I understand about your concern with Maria but I think that is something that you should not worry about. I don't think she has any vocabulary problems or something like that. When I heard her reading, I was so blown away and she can pronounce words very clearly. She is indeed a gifted child. You guys are so blessed to have a smart child like her. I am sure that one of these days, you'll be surprised how she can talk a lot and very clearly. She's still on the "learning to say" stage right now. Just keep working on her just like you did with her alphabets and reading. You're amazing Momma! Take care my friend. Keep this blog lively, okay? HEHEHEHE

Says Blogger Mimi, at April 22, 2008 5:14 PM

  • hello Raquel,

how are you first of all.. i hope all is well, i think your girl's situation will soon be okay.. i mean, siguro its not her time yet na makasalita but i'm sure she's trying her best too... like my nephew he can speak fluently but sometimes there are words na parang siya ang gumagawa... alam mo na...

doing my daily rounds and God Bless

Plumber's Butt!

Wearing low-waist pants is a fashion it started in the 1960s. A perfect pair for these types of jeans is wearing a thong. Low-waist pants are worn to display more skin at the waist or hips and not showing off cleavage of buttocks. So, which of these two is fashionable? Oh! By the way, these candid pictures were taken at the office of my sister using her cellphone. See what technology can do. He-he-he.

Truman or True Man

Have you seen the movie Truman Show? It’s about a man whose life was caught on camera and shown on T.V. for the world to see. At first Truman didn’t know that he was being watched. He didn’t know that all the people he knew including those he loved – his wife, mother, best friend – were mere actors and just playing a role the director was dictating. In that show, Truman was the only true man.

In the end, Truman learns the truth. His creator, the director, gives him a choice: he could stay in that world where no harm can happen to him, or he could go out in the real world, a world of uncertainty and possible danger.
