Children Supplements

In this entry, I have so many questions about good nutrition for our children. Children should take vitamins for proper nutrition; this is because so many kids don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.

Every time I take my daughter to her Pediatrician, I ask if she needs vitamin and mineral supplements. According to the Doctor, she can still get those vitamins with her milk and the foods she eats.

I observed children in the Philippines, especially infants; parents already started giving them vitamins. As for me, I am worried for my 18 month old daughter, because I have not given her any supplements since she was born. We did give her iron drops in her breast milk, but she started on formula with iron later. I don’t know if it is the right time to give her something to balance her diet.

Sometimes, my daughter eats the same food that we do. But, most of her intake is milk.

Hi Raq, I did give andrew's vitamin after his done with his formula because I am not so sure if he get enough vitamin from wholemilk and the food he eat even though I make different kinds of porridge with vegie, meat, chichen and fist mixed in the porridge everyday and in betweek he had snack. That really up to you you feel Maria is tiny and skinny then you can give her vitamin its good for her to get some supplement. Andrew taking centrumkids everyday..he doesnt like it sometimes because its too big tablet.

Hi Raq, wa man pod nag take si Miriam ug vitamins. Pag agad ra sa iya Pedia if she is need of vitamins. Sige Raq, you take care diha. God bless you all!

Thank you sa information Lanie.

my son drank milk up until he was 4 years old. he stopped because he didn't want to drink from the glass. I did not want him to drink from feeding bottles since he was almost turning five at that time. my son is not fat but i know he's healthy. milk gave him enough nutrition. when he stopped drinking milk, I felt worried because he's so picky and it seems like he's not eating at all. now, i insist him to drink his milk. kaya nga lang ay bribe him by giving him chips afterwards. i gave him commercial vitamins but it didn't do anything for him. that's just my observation.

Good equilibrated food, fruits and milk is enough. Too much vitamines and especially the chemical once can be bad and not good at all. My son (33 now) has always been a very healthy boy, he mesures 2 m (6.6) and had never had breastfeeding and never drank milk (he is alergic to that) but with yogourt, cheese and fruits it compensated and brought everything he needed.

Hi Raq.. you dont have to ask maria dr..because I didnt as long as maria is healthy.. you can give her vitamin like "pulivisol" correct me my spelling not sure of this spelling.. you can buy in pharmacy over the counter in vitamin's area. Hi Raquel. As a doctor/mom, I must say your pediatrician is right. As long as your child eats well and drinks plenty of milk, she's getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs. For the most part, it's only market strategy of pharmaceuticals when they say that those food supplents like vitamins are a must. They are if the child is not eating well.

@ EVI:
Thank you Evi. If I will use bottle with other liquid drinks, ayaw rin nya sa bottle, gusto nya sa baso.

@ GATTINA:
Hi Gattina, I appreciate your presence to my blog. Wow, your is tall!

@ LANIE:
Thank you for sharing Lanie. I will check that vitiamin in the market. Again, thanks for the information...see yah around.

@ TANI:
You are right Tani. Eto kaseng mga commercial eh. Some of my friends too, binigyan na nila ng vitiamins mga anak nila at a very young age. Just wondering why my daughter's doctor didn't even recommend.

@ CHARLES:
That would be fine Charles. Thanks for passing by.

@ GWAPASILA:
Thank you for sharing your side Lutchi.

@ LOLLIPOP:

thnaks for the visit sa blog ko...

goodluck!

Mayumi has Maria's age too! I gave her vitamins when she was still a baby! Now, I only give her one vitamin (4 drops everyday) VIt.D and that's all! I also asked her pediatrician if she needs supplementary vitamins and I got the same answer! They can get vitamins in all their intake food! Don't worry Raquel, as long as she's not sicky , that's what matters meaning she's healthy!

Unsolicited advice if you want Maria to eat veggies try this one !I make soup myself for them : I steam different kinds of veggies with water ( sometimes I add whatever meat I want for the day), when very well cook I put them in the mixer (should be well mixed), put a little bit of butter and white liquid cream when serve!

Interesting to read about your worries. As father to 4 healthy children, I'm more concerned about parents worries than for children in normal families. If the children are given a wide variation of natural food, incl. organic fruit and veg's, fish and white meat, then it will turn well out (except when coming to deseases). Wish your youngster a healthy life and you less worried.
