Life with a Toddler

These are the challenging and exhausting:

  • Cooking for her meals.
  • Preparing snacks. (yogurt, fruits, crackers & etc.)
  • Feeding.
  • Guiding to eat and drink her milk by herself.
  • Teaching how to be independent.
  • Playing together.
  • Everyday, keeping her toys in the drawer.
  • Reading a story.

Residency Extended

About a week ago, I finally received a letter from the USCIS (United States Citizenship & Immigration Service) to let me know my two year conditional permanent residence has been extended for a year pending processing of my application to become a permanent resident. The letter says I can still travel anytime outside from USA during the one year extension. I “might” be going home to PI (Philippine Islands) during this period.

I am not worried about this extension since I am not in a hurry to become a US Citizen. Hubby and I have many plans in the Philippines before obtaining my US Citizenship. Nobody can harm my residency unless I am committed with criminal issues.

Just recently, I had done my biometrics in USCIS – Application Support Center. I arrived there on time at 8:00am then finished at 8:20am.

The Winner is Pink

We are having a little girl on the way. We are looking forward to her arrival and can't wait for a follow up ultrasound in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the baby will change the position so we can have a perfect angle for 4D Ultrasound.

By the way, this is the 4D Ultrasound of my daughter. We better have one for the second child too...ha-ha she will get jealous.

Why Buy A House?

To buy a house is a big decision. So many things to consider for paying taxes, utilities, maintenance and etc. But, living in an apartment is much cheaper than to own a house. Apartments are supplying gas and water and some appliances (furniture, refrigerator, gas stove, etc.).

There are, definitely, a lot of things to think about!

As I can see, owning a house is better than to live an apartment, for the rest of your life. There is so much to deem for the family, especially if you have children. Having children has been the most wonderful experience. Many apartments don't have much of a yard to play in. And if there isn't a yard or common area at your apartment, where are you going to BBQ?

We started looking for an apartment to accommodate at least four. We are trying to stay within a monthly rent of $800. But, we just realized if we can afford to pay $800 for the the rent. So, if we are going to spend that much per month, then, why not buy a house? It's more than just an investment of money - it's something special. But, until we are sure, we do not want to buy a house.

We were approved for a housing loan, and on that basis we have been looking, again, only looking. But, for the mean time we are also considering renting an apartment before jumping to a big commitment.

Weaning From the Bottle

When it comes to weaning from the bottle, the process can be difficult, but it's worth it in the end, for both you and your child.

I've seen many parents giving their children bottles at age 3, but weaning from the bottle can actually be done around 12-18 months of age. At this age, I didn’t try to wean my baby from bottle feeding, because I was concerned about her milk intake. Most of my friends said, when their children started to drink milk out of a glass, the intake of milk was less than feeding from a bottle.

This time, I am encouraged to wean my two year old daughter from the bottle for her dental health. If she will continue with her bottle it may cause of tooth decay.

The first five days were hard to deal with, but she's doing better now. She's been drinking milk out of a glass for three weeks now. I haven't seen her missing her bottle. After her heavy meals, she can drink five (5) onces of milk in a total of 15 onces everyday.

First Prenatal Visit

I went in for my first prenatal check-up yesterday morning. It was first because I was out of the country before knowing I am pregnant. My BP and the baby’s heartbeat are normal. Weight was good, I gained but I didn’t put up a lot of weight compare from my first pregnancy. The Doctor said everything is looking good.

This was a marathon appointment including blood test for diabetes during pregnancy, urinary test, complete physical with Pap smear and breast
exam.

We will go back on Thursday for 2D Ultrasound to check the growth of the baby including the 4D ultrasound too.

My next appointment will be on July 30, 2007.

The pregnancy due date calculation will be on October 4, 2007.

My Daughter's Foods

Bringing up a child is full of tears and tantrums and laughter.

My two (2) year old daughter had just graduated from drinking only milk. She can eat some table foods like an adult. She can even use a spoon to eat her oatmeal. Wow! It’s hard for me to believe how she has a good appetite, and she gets hungry quickly too.

At first, it was hard for me to prepare her meals. We would try to feed her what we would be eating, such as foods that we would buy at a restaurant or what I prepared for our meals at home. I usually prepared vegetable salads and sandwiches, but these meals are not the type of foods that she would eat. Now, the only difference is that we will eat the chunky portions, and my daughter will eat the ones that I cut into small pieces and those foods of a smoother texture.

But later, I found out that they are not that hard to make at all. I learned to prepare meal size portions and place them in plastic containers for refrigeration, for meals enough for up to 3 days. Now, with more experience, I enjoy more and more by experimenting and making new and different batches of baby/toddler foods.

These are some foods that are handy for me to have in the kitchen: Oatmeal, pasta, steamed rice, chicken stock or beef stock, regular milk, ground chicken, cereals and etc.

Mixed Nuts #1

My time is so filled up. Not to mention loads of household chores I need to do. Hubby left a big job for me to clean up. The house is not dirty but it’s a mess. Honestly, I am so poor about doing household chores, not that I do not know how, but instead, I am way too lazy doing such.

A few short highlights of the things that will make me busy.

  • Household chores.
  • Next week, we will be visiting hubby’s family in Virginia.
  • This month, I have two (2) upcoming appointments in my OBY-GYN clinic.
  • Getting ready for our second baby, that will be due on late September 2007.
  • We are looking for a new place/apartment with at least three (3) rooms for more room for the second baby.
  • House hunting.
  • I want to finish watching the movie series of “Rome” season II.
  • Trying to get rid out of the lazy bugs within me.
  • Last, but not the least. I am enjoying our newly bought (yesterday) King Size Bed. :D

By the way, the continuation of my previous entry will be posted next week.
