  • My Hometown Sweet Home
    By Raquel on August 26, 2008 | 32 Comments32 Comments Comments
Allow me to reminisce. About a week ago, my sisters went home to Bukidnon for a family reunion. Bukidnon is five hours drive from Cagayan de Oro. I and my sisters left there for school in CDO by the ages of 10 – 12. Even though we didn’t grow up there, we still consider Bukidnon is our hometown. My sister S sent me these photos, and I had a flashback after seeing it. All of these pictures remind me of my mother. It was her decision to send us to school in CDO, when we were only ten. Every Christmas break; we went home to Bukidnon and spent at least two weeks on vacation. But my mother di...
  • Disciplinary Training

I have learned, in raising my children, not to spoil them. As a mother, sometimes it is hard to discipline a child. My 3 year old daughter [Maria], likes to experiment and is curious of everything. She wants to do this and that. If I don’t allow her or give her what she wants, she cries. Sometimes, just to stop her from whining, I gave her what she wanted. This is one example to show how that she always wins. First, I will be drinking water, and then she wants to drink too. She can’t wait until I will be finished. So, just to avoid her crying, I will stop drinking and let her drink first....
  • Favorite Breakfast

Egg is my favorite breakfast. This week, I am not sure how many times I have cooked a vegetable omelet. I guess it’s my children’s favorite breakfast too. My daughter didn’t complain and kept on eating and even they asked for more. Omelet and milk is enough for us for breakfast. What do you think of this image, did I make you hungry? Anyway, what is your favorite breakfast to make at home when you find yourself bright and ready for your favorite meal? ...

This is in continuation of my previous entry entitled, “New Writing Skills”. Yesterday, my daughter [Maria] was writing, while sitting at her table. But suddenly my youngest daughter [Bianca] started coming towards her. You know what Maria did? She ran and hid all of her writing materials. Maria knew what would happen next; Bianca would get it, tear it and eat it. The table is not ideal for writing; because it is a Little Tots a picnic table, and Bianca can climb on it if she wants to. It makes me sad, because Maria has no freedom if she wants to write. Also, today, Maria was writing; and ...
  • New Writing Skills

About three months ago, my daughter [Maria] was showing an interest in building words by using her alphabet letters. She can spell simple words without copying or looking at her first words book. So, I thought, if she knows how to spell words maybe she is interested in writing too. Then, I started teaching her how to write. It was really hard for me, because she did not know how to hold a pen or a crayon. At first, I did not know where to start, but then I figured it out. First, I let her use the crayon by using her drawing book. But, she was a hard head, you know; she did not understand, and...
