  • Nausea, Vomiting and Puke Everywhere
    By Raquel on February 11, 2010 | 14 Comments14 Comments Comments
Last night, I didn’t sleep much, because my daughter, Maria, started throwing up. And she did that again for a total of about five times. This morning, whatever foods and liquids she put in her stomach kept coming back up. The vomiting continued, and there were messes everywhere she got sick for the entire day. An adult in this situation is manageable, but my daughter is only four years old. She could not handle going to the bathroom, when she felt like throwing up. She was just too weak, so she threw up in the bed three times, and three new blankets were replaced. She also threw up on my ba...
  • Dreaming of Snow
    By Raquel on January 4, 2010 | 6 Comments6 Comments Comments
This photo was taken about a month ago when we were in Virginia with my in-laws for Thanksgiving. In the Tennessee city, where we live, we do not get much snow. Since I arrived here in 2004, there has been only three times that it has snowed; there is never any accumulation of more than about ½ inch, and the snow always melts very soon afterwards. Anyway, while we were in Virginia for Thanksgiving holiday, I was hoping it would snow, so that my children would be able to see it. Yes, it did snow, but it was not a heavy snow, we had only about 1 inch of snow which melted the same day. When Mar...
  • First Visit to a Library
    By Raquel on October 14, 2009 | 5 Comments5 Comments Comments
The Cleveland public library sent invitations to Maria’s school, this invitation was for all children for their first visit to a library; with this they sponsored an event which they called a Library Bear Picnic Party. For this, they created many activities inside the library: storytelling, a puppet show, painting, scrap, giveaways and more. She had a lot of fun, especially, when someone performed during the puppet show as a bear. Although Maria is only 4 years old, I am and have been training her to like and love to read books. One of these days, we will go to the library to have her get he...
  • Educational Channel
By Raquel on October 5, 2009 | No Comments Comments
Educational TV channels like PBS Kids and Nickelodeon provide a safe entertainment for children, especially for preschoolers. These TV shows could help them in preparation for a proper school. It’s hard to admit that sometimes I use the television as my baby sitter, but the kind of programming has given me good results with my children. Most of the day, Maria and Bianca are watching television, but I’ll see to it that they can watch educational programming. Last night my daughter Maria showed me two different colors at the same time. Here is how our conversation went: Maria: Mom, this i...
  • First Day of Pre-k School
    By Raquel on August 28, 2009 | 11 Comments11 Comments Comments
My daughter Maria did not get to go to the Pre-K program in the public school system, so we decided to send her to a private. There were not openings for Maria there, because of the income requirements. Two weeks ago, she started going to school in a Baptist Church pre-K program. She is going to school for 2 days per week, instead of 3. So far, she is enthusiastic about going to school. Everytime she wakes up in the morning she would tell me what day is. Now, she knows and can keep up the days of the week. She can’t wait to get in school every other day and she’s loving every minute of it....
  • Using Scissors and Cutting Papers
    By Raquel on August 21, 2009 | 4 Comments4 Comments Comments
This is an overdue update of my daughter Maria. Well, here is the good news. She finally knows how to use the scissors, and she can cut different shapes perfectly. Three weeks ago, I started training her how to use scissors. At first it was hard for Maria to hold the scissors and the paper. Everytime she would follow the marked guide, her body moved towards that direction too. She kept complaining and became frustrated, because she didn’t know how to do it. I didn’t give up; but, instead, I would change something, so that she would not feel bored. Giving her rewards for her achievements wa...
